    The Eco Shrine

    The Eco Shrine:

Built in 1995 by Diana Graham, this beautiful place is imbued with a sense of homage.

The approach to the Eco-Shrine begins with a long, leafy tunnel of Hazelnut trees that opens into a spacious, park-like garden.  The visitor's eye is soon drawn to a 6 meter high tree sculpture Diana Graham carved from the remains of a redwood tree that had been struck by lightning.

Over the years it has become one of the major tourist attractions in the area. Diana says that it seems to generate a life of its own with meditations, concerts, weddings, art exhibitions, etc. Diana also runs environmental art workshops for scholars.

    The Labyrinth

    The Labyrinth:

The Labyrinth at The Edge is an eleven-circuit Labyrinth, similar in design to the Labyrinth in the Chartres Cathedral in France. It is one of the most intricate Labyrinth designs. The Labyrinth at The Edge has a diameter of 29 meters and a circumference of 91 meters. The length of the pathway is 700 meters, and the total distance of the walk to the centre and out is 1.4 kilometers, making it one of the largest Labyrinths in the world! It was completed in 2002.

The Labyrinth has a protecting and nurturing nature. Homes, seafaring ships and Cathedrals often had a Labyrinth carving or painting, usually on the masthead or over the front door, to keep all within safe.

    About Us

    Get To Know King's Lodge

High up in the Amathole Mountains lies the quaint and picturesque village of HOGSBACK. A mountain hamlet set against the backdrop of the 3 Hogs mountain range and surrounded by forests of trees, so tall, that they seem to be kissing the edges of the sky and so other worldly that it is rumoured that it is where JRR Tolkien got his inspiration to write the ``Lord of the Rings`` trilogy. Tucked away within the womb of this magical utopia, surrounded by a cluster of trees and just a Unicorn gallop away from the centre of this village, the KING’S LODGE HOTEL rises in perfect harmony with its surroundings.
